path forward

Receiving a liver cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. Understanding your treatment options is one way to prepare for the conversations ahead.

Understanding the Journey Ahead

Hearing the words “you have liver cancer” can bring uncertainty and a lot of questions. Whether you've been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of primary liver cancer, or are learning about tumors in the liver, understanding your options is an important first step. As you move through your cancer journey, your care team may discuss several treatment approaches (including microwave ablation) as part of your overall treatment plan.

The Benefits of Ablation

Microwave ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat delivered through a thin probe to treat certain tumors. Depending on the size, location, and number of tumors — as well as your overall health — it may be one treatment option your care team considers. Explore the potential benefits and learn whether microwave ablation may be an option for you.
Every treatment option has risks. Microwave ablation, like all medical procedures, has risks. These may include pain, bleeding, infection, and injury to nearby organs. Serious complications are uncommon, but possible. If a tumor is not fully treated, more treatment may be needed. Other treatment options have their own risks and benefits. Ask your care team to explain the risks and possible benefits of every option being considered for you.

Every Journey Has a Story

Every experience is different, but each story offers insight into navigating treatment decisions with confidence and asking informed questions along the way.

If You Are a Caregiver

Caregivers often become researchers, advocates, note takers, and trusted partners throughout the cancer journey. Whether you're helping a parent, spouse, family member, or friend, having clear information can make it easier to support conversations with the care team, understand available treatment options, and prepare for what's next.
