About This Site
This educational website is produced and funded by Precision IO Group. Precision IO Group is the parent company of NeuWave Medical, which makes a microwave ablation system used by hospitals in the United States.
Because our companies make microwave ablation devices, we have a business interest in people learning that this treatment category exists. This site is educational: it does not recommend any treatment, and it does not replace conversations with your care team. Only your care team can decide which treatment options should be evaluated for you.
The content on this site was developed by Precision IO. Content is reviewed through Precision IO Group’s medical, legal, and regulatory review process; the identifier at the bottom reflects that review.
Every treatment option has risks
Microwave ablation, like all medical procedures, has risks. These may include pain, bleeding, infection, and injury to nearby organs. Serious complications are uncommon, but possible. If a tumor is not fully treated, more treatment may be needed. Microwave ablation is not right for everyone. Other treatment options have their own risks and benefits. Ask your care team to explain the risks and possible benefits of every option being considered for you.
Less common but serious complications can include injury to organs or blood vessels, a collapsed lung, blood clots, abnormal heart rhythm, or an abnormal connection between organs (called a fistula). Some complications may require surgery or another procedure to treat. In some cases, the ablation may not destroy all of the tumor, or tumor cells may spread along the needle path, and more treatment may be needed. There may also be side effects that are not yet known.

FDA Information
One of the microwave ablation systems for the treatment option discussed on this site is made by NeuWave Medical, Inc., part of Precision IO Group. Caution: Federal law (USA) restricts this device to sale by, or on the order of, a physician.
The NEUWAVE™ Microwave Ablation System and Accessories are indicated for the ablation (coagulation) of soft tissue in percutaneous, open surgical and in conjunction with laparoscopic surgical settings, including the partial or complete ablation of non-resectable liver tumors. The NeuWave Microwave Ablation System is not indicated for use in cardiac procedures.
What this means in plain language: The FDA has cleared this device to destroy (ablate) soft tissue using heat. This includes destroying all or part of a liver tumor that cannot be removed with surgery. The FDA clearance does not include claims about cancer outcomes, such as whether a tumor comes back or how long a person lives. FDA clearance is not an endorsement of any treatment. The device Instructions for Use list all warnings and precautions. Ask your doctor for more information.
